Visitors Policy

Drew Memorial Hospital's purpose is to promote the health and well being of South Arkansas residents. In accordance with this mission, the staff of DMH has developed a Visitors Policy to insure a quiet, restful, healing atmosphere for our patient's quick recovery. While family support is recognized as a necessity of the healing process, a good night's sleep is crucial.

What is the Policy?

You are welcome to have two guests in your room during regular visiting hours (10:00 am - 8:30 pm). A parent or guardian must stay in the room with a child under 12 years of age at all times.

Are Children Allowed to Visit?

No. To protect both your child and our patients, children under age 12 are not permitted on the Patient Care Units. Such children may wait, properly attended, in the front lobby waiting room.

What about the Birthing Center?

Husbands of wives or support person may, at the discretion of the attending physician, be permitted to visit the labor and delivery rooms and C-section rooms provided that their presence does not interfere with the routine operating practices of the department.

What are the Window Viewing Times for the Nursery?

Babies will be shown at the following times:

  • 2:30 - 4:30 pm
  • 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Visitors may observe babies through the observation window but are not permitted in the interior of the Nursery. Only immediate family may visit with the new mother and baby when the baby is present in the mother's room. The new baby will be with mom at the following times unless rooming in has been requested and approved.

  • 10:30 - 12:00 noon
  • 4:30 - 5:30 pm
  • 8:30 - 9:30 pm

What about the Intensive Care Unit?

ICU patients may receive visitors from their immediate family every two (2) hours beginning at 10:00am until 8:00pm. Such visits are limited to ten (10) minutes in length provided visitors may be asked to leave when patient care is being hindered by their presence or when the patient is being disturbed.

What about Overnight Visitors?

Private room patients will be allowed one (1) visitor overnight.
Semi - private room patients are discouraged from having visitors after 8:30 p.m. in any effort to provide both patients with privacy and comfort. Visitors of the opposite sex are not allowed to stay overnight in a semi - private room.

What about the Emergency Room?

ER patients may have one visitor at a time due to limited space and they may be asked to leave when patient care is being hindered by their presence or when the patient is being disturbed.
